KRYSTYN’S TALKS
“Women in Magic” is an exploration of Krystyn’s experience as one of the few women in the male-dominated world of magic and a survey of the women who paved the way before her. Growing up in a field in which she was not considered “part of the club” meant challenges at every turn in her career. However, thanks to her perseverance, Krystyn has flourished, finding her own niche and advocating for future generations of women to pursue their passions despite obstacles in their way
“The Art of Noticing” presents a never-before-seen look into how Krystyn performs her mentalism shows through connecting to audience members. By paying even closer attention than one might think possible, she is able to forge interrelations that make the magic work and that are applicable to any field from communications to physics.
“Magic and Philosophy” is a deep dive into how magic works in the minds of its spectators. How can a magician create the illusion of something happening that is inherently impossible? Feats of magic shatter our realities and can lead us to question the way the world works, which makes it intrinsically anti-nihilist. Magic is a vital counterposition to the apathetic worldview many people maintain today and can shift the way people approach problems in their own lives.
“Magic and Witchcraft” explores the intersection between the two practices. Krystyn is a magician by trade but a witch by blood, descending from Kathrin Key who was burned at the stake during the Scottish Witch Trials in 1661. Krystyn dispels the common myths and stereotypes about witches and explains how witchcraft functions psychologically to bring about good in our lives. Her magic tricks are interlaced with “supernatural phenomenon” to show how we can better expand our self-discovery.
